I'm trying to set up a wireless network for my home. A friend gave me his old 2Wire 1701HG Gateway. I am currently using AT&T DSL with a Siemens Speedster 4100 modem. I can't seem to get the 2Wire to work for me. I was told the 2Wire would replace the Siemens and give me wireless capability, is that true? Anyone have any suggestions on how I can't this up and running? Thank you!

It might work but you can't just plug it up and turn it on. It needs to be programmed with the correct information before it can work. If you can log onto the siemens you can probably find the settings you need then connect with a cable to the 1701 and log into it. (For the 1701 start IE and point it 192.168.1.254. For the Siemens, Start, Run, cmd, OK and type: ipconfig - look for the default gateway. Passwords:http://www.irintech.com/x1/blogarchive.php?id=764). If not you will need to contact your ISP and see if they will tell you what you need to know.
