I've had a progressive problem with my Dell XPS 420. It started when the computer would go into sleep mode due to inactivity and the mouse or keyboard would not turn it on. A hard shut down would work.

Then after a few times the hard shut down would just bring up the black screen, but it would start up in safe mode. I tried restoring to an old date, nothing, I tried running the memory diagnostics and the hard drive check they returned no problems.

Now the safe mode won't boot and it gets hung up on the crcdisk.sys.

I don't know what to do...I have work from the past few years that has stupidly not been backed up???

HELP PLEASE

From what I have seen crcdisk.sys is the last file to load in safe mode.
I would suggest backing up what you can and doing a reinstall.
