I am receiving the following error when attempting to launch a few applications: Process ID=0x172c(5932), Thread ID=0x19a8(6568). Several sites recommended a "registry cleanup" tool and I used it; but I am still receiving the error message. Can someone recommend a fix? Thanks

That I regret to say was a very bad move.
They usually do more damage than good.
Very few ofthem, very occasionally do solve the problem, but most are usless, many dangerous to the health of the computer and some make the only option a reinstall.
KEEP WELL away from all such programs.
See the My Link , in my signature notes.

Start with a chkdsk /f, followed by a system file checker on sfc /scannow command

You could try system restore to before the problem developed:

I agree re a restore point, but STILL start the procedure with a chkdsk and a system file check on sfc /scannow.
