Hi,

I received 2 email from my contacts with no subject yesterday and I opened them. There's a link attached in both mails but I didn't click on them. Now my email account sends spam mails with links attached, these are some examples of the links: http://reclamalo.com/molo.php, http://superraider.be/molo.php, http://softmaderic.com.ar/molo.php.

I downloaded OTL and tried to run it multiple times but there's an error message (which is attached in this post) everytime saying OTL has a problem and needs to be closed. What should I do now?

Thank you in advance for any help! :D

Try Safe Mode with Networking.

Reboot and when you see the maker's logo, hear a beep or it mention F8, start tapping the F8 key slowly. Keep tapping until you see the safe mode menu. Select Safe Mode with Networking. Log in with your usual login. Make sure you do not have a malware proxy: In IE, Tools, Internet Options, Connections, LAN Settings, then uncheck all boxes and OK. Close IE and restart IE.

In FireFox, Tools, Options, Advanced, Settings, check No Proxy then OK. Close Firefox and restart Firefox.

In Chrome, Wrench, Options, Under the Hood, Change Proxy Settings, uncheck all boxes, OK.

Also change to a known good DNS:
1. Click "Start," click "Control Panel," click "Network and Internet Connections," and then click "Network Connections."
2. Right-click the network connection that you want to configure (the one you use to connect to the Internet), and then click Properties.
3. On the General tab (for a local area connection), or the Networking tab (for all other connections), click "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)", and then click "Properties."

4. Click "Use the following DNS server addresses," and then type 4.2.2.1 in the Preferred DNS server and 8.8.8.8 in the Alternate DNS server boxes.

5. Click "OK"

Disconnect your network connection, wait 10 seconds and reconnect it.

Then download otl.com from one of these links:

http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTL.com
http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTL.scr

or:
www.itxassociates.com/OT-Tools/OTL.com
www.itxassociates.com/OT-Tools/OTL.scr

and try to run it. If otl.com doesn't want to work then try otl.scr

Hi Ron,

I couldn't get to the safe mode menu. I tried to press F8 after rebooting but it doesn't go to safe mode menu. My laptop is old and it's always beeping when I turn it on (spilled some water and since then it's like that, I have to press space or enter key so that it will boot).

I did the other steps but both otl.com and otl.scr wouldn't run. I got the same error message as before.

Thank you,
Devina

You will have to get a friend to burn a bootable CD for you. Have them burn the AVG Rescue CD and see if it will work for you:

Hi Ron,

I will ask my friend to do it and as soon as I get it I'll let you know. But I think it won't be today since he doesn't live near me.

Here is another possibility.

Still requires your friend tho but if you have a USB bigger than 250M you can save on the CD.

Hi Ron,

I just went down to my neighbor and we managed to get the Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10 on a USB stick. But I don't know how to proceed to step 4 (enable booting from removable devices).

Thanks,
Devina

ps: I forgot to mention that programm compatibility assistent opened by itself after I get the "Kaspersky USB Rescue Disk has been successfully created" message (the window screenshot is attached). It suggested that the program was not installed correctly and gave 2 choices, reinstall with recomended adjustmen or just leave it.

What make and model is the PC?

I wouldn't worry about the compatibility warning.

Plug in the USB drive.
Reboot, it should tell you to press F1, F2, F10, F12, Del or ESC or perhaps a different key altogether to get into Setup or to adjust the boot order. Hit the key it tells you to then poke around until you find where it talks about which device will be used first to boot. You want it to boot from your USB device first. Not all PCs can boot from the USB drive. If yours is too old it may not be able to so if you don't see that option then at least set it to look at the CD/DVD drive first so that when you get a CD burnt you can use it.

Hi,

It's Toshiba Satellite M70-354. Is it too old? I've had it for almost 5 years.

I can't find much on your computer. Toshiba is not really very good at documentation. To get into the BIOS setup you use F1. It appears they use F12 to adjust the boot order for most of their laptops so you can try that during a boot if you can't find a place int BIOS setup to do it.

Hi Ron,

I got to the boot menu with F12, there're 4 choices:
1. +HDD
2. CD/HDD
3. FDD
4. LAN
but there's no USB so do you think I should just wait for the CD?

I'm afraid so. You will need to get the CD/DVD to move to the top of the list so you can boot from the CD.
