By uninstalled I hope you mean just stopped from auto starting?

Uninstalled if not needed, but programs just sitting on the disk do not affect performance (assuming adequate disk space) - so primarily, I did mean stopped from starting with Windows.

I tried to verify if Avira Free checks for spyware - which is really where Windows Defender comes in. But this would suggest Avira Free doesn't do much of anything! ??? I cannot find on Avira's site at all that says Avira Free checks for spyware, which I think is odd. If Avira does not check for spyware, then WD may be appropriate (if MBAM is not in real-time).

But that said, If Avira does not check for spyware, then I might suggest uninstalling Avira and move to an anti-malware solution that does. If you select Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE), it will disable WD for you, and hopefully the one MSE will consume fewer resources than Avira and WD together.

You have 4 gigs of memory but doubling that to 8 gigs would really help with your video and picture work you do. Since you have a 64 bit OS it will utilize it with no problem. I run 8 gigs on my system and play lots of the newer games with no problem.

Oh you are talking a new build completely and not just updating your existing system. OK I will take a look at it also.
Personally I would go AMD build as I have the 4 core amd cpu in my new build with 8 gigs of memory a 3tb worth of hd's. Running 3 different OS's and I play lots of games and watch movies and I see no slowdown at all.

The AMD system looks really good but nothing wrong with the Intel system either. I'm just a AMD person myself.
I would look at the price first between the two and then look at the native speeds of the CPU. Others will disagree with my suggestion but in my case I bought the AMD quad at 3.4ghz versus buying a I7 at 3.2 or 3.3 Ghz.

I like Intels and Gigabyte - so neither of those listed are for me. That said, AMD and ASUS make excellent products too, and if forced to accept either as gift, I would not hesitate to take, or enjoy!

Funny Digerati as I actually have the Asus Crosshair III mobo and the AMD cpu in my system
Great combination and a year plus later not one single problem with them.

Yes. But ASUS is a close second.

Yes. Gigabyte boards are mostly blue. ASUS are black. Really, that's about it. I've used both many times, as well as a few others. It really is a matter of personal preference, not in quality or reliability.

That said - I did have a Gigabyte board a few years ago that had some leaky capacitors. The board was 3 1/2 years, past the 3 year warranty. I decided to contact Gigabyte anyway and was pleasantly surprised (and hooked) when they issued a RMA and replaced the board for free anyway. I already liked their products, but after that, I liked their company too.
