Along with my windows computer, I have a Imac m5521 which is about 5 years old and hasn't been used in around 2. I tried to hook it up to my 56K telephone line connection and first recieved dial tone errors. I called my ISP and got that problem straightened out, but now I'm recieving error messages dealing with the modem. I have no idea how to solve the error. It says that the modem is not responding properly and to check the control panel. Please help if you can.

Welcome to GTG.

Are you sure that the phone line is OK now? Make sure it's plugged in securely. Unplug and replug to make sure. How about the settings? Is it set up properly?

If that doesn't work, let's see if the modem is the problem. Right click on My Computer and go to Properties->(Hardware tab if you have Windows XP)->Device Manager and look for the modem entry. Does it have any strange marking like an exclamation mark next to it? If it does, there may be a problem with the modem. If not, try deleting that entry and then restarting your computer. Try connecting again.
