Good Morning,
My computer goes directly into Windows Error Recovery and cannot start. Using my wifes computer I downloaded the Norton Recovery Tool and saved to a disk. Loaded this disk in my infected computer and ran the Norton Tool. After scan complete it shows 1 virus found Boot.Tidserv and says it cannot repair.

I have read several post here on the forum but most require that the infected computer must be able to download files, mine cannot. Is there any suggestions on how I can repair the infected computer.

Hi what version of windows are you running ? Also do you have the disc for it ?

Lets have a quick shufti outside of windows with this bootable CD

Please print these instruction out so that you know what you are doing

• Download OTLPENet.exe to your desktop on the working system
• Ensure that you have a blank CD in the drive
• Double click OTLPENet.exe and this will then open imgburn to burn the file to CD
• Reboot the sick system using the boot CD you just created.Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here
• As the CD needs to detect your hardware and load the operating system, I would recommend a nice cup of tea whilst it loads
• Your system should now display a Reatogo desktop.Note : as you are running from CD it is not exactly speedy
• Double-click on the OTLPE icon.
• Select the Windows folder of the infected drive if it asks for a location
• When asked "Do you wish to load the remote registry", select Yes
• When asked "Do you wish to load remote user profile(s) for scanning", select Yes
• Ensure the box "Automatically Load All Remaining Users" is checked and press OK
• OTL should now start
• Drag and drop this attached scan.txt into the Custom scans and fixes box, or double click the scan box

• Press Run Scan to start the scan.
• When finished, the file will be saved in drive C:\OTL.txt
• Copy this file to your USB drive if you do not have internet connection on this system
• Right click the file and select send to : select the USB drive.
• Confirm that it has copied to the USB drive by selecting it
• You can backup any files that you wish from this OS
• Please post the contents of the C:\OTL.txt file in your reply.

Thank you for replying. Sorry I left out that my version is windows 7. I do not have the disc and therefore I dont know how to move forward with downloading anything onto the infected computer.

Whoops, I see now you said that I need to download on my working computer....sorry I will do that and follow your direction. I respond after I complete your post.

Ok here is where I am....

downloaded file OTLPENet.exe and burned to disk.
put disk in infected computer and started Reatogo-X-PE
Blue screen then comes on with error.
"A problem has been detected and window has been shut dow to prevent damage to your computer"

Hmm that indicates no boot device, which is weird as you are running from CD

Can you access safe mode on the sick computer.. Reboot then press and hold F8
Does that give you a menu to start in safe mode

i have can go to the screen where I have the choice and when I pick safe mode it goes into system recovery options screen. I have also tried Last known good configuration with no luck.

On that screen is there the option .. Repair my computer ?

yes< chose repair my computer and is says loading files across bottom of sceen then to system recovery options. i have tried startup repair and system restore.

Select Command prompt


At the command prompt type the following

• Bootrec.exe /FixMbr
  
• Once finished type Exit

Let me know if that allows you into normal windows

I typed it and it reads The operation completed successfully. Then I typed exit and hit enter and went back to the screen you posted above.
