Yeah I seen some of the still images of the William years disappointing really cause I wanted to see the transformation sequence. An to be honest it cam out fairly well. The episode has no still images and runs as the original on-air series would have. I would suggest getting it. Who is your favorite doctor? (I would say Patrick cause of his hobo style but I need more episodes lol). An I wanted to get that to view but I got the Face of Evil instead and must say one of the finest episodes I ever saw.
Yeah it's a shame that William Hartnoll's transformation sequence hasn't survived that would have been a good episode to see as it was broadcast. I'll have to get the episode you mentioned and other Patrick Troughton episodes that have recently been restored I haven't seen enough of them. My fave Doctor is Tom Baker, I love how scatter-brained his performances are and the way he switches from being funny to being deadly serious is amazing.
