Hello,
My Goal is to connect my PC with my laptop via Ethernet cable. I want to share files and internet. Both systems are running on windows XP. What would be the steps to take after plugging the cable into both computers?

Forget plugging the cable into each computer, mountain and molehills come to mind.

Buy (or use) a wireless router and plug both computers into that.
