Sony Vaio not recognising Ethernet Cable

Hi,
I have a Sony Vaio Win 7 32 bit laptop.
Just shifted to a new apartment where there is already a wireless router.My laptop sometimes is able to connect to the wireless internet;but just for 2-3mins.After that it shows limited connectivity and disconnects automatically.
But most of the times the laptop cannot connect to internet.Then I tried using a cable from the router to the laptop and it seems the laptop is not even able to recognise the cable.
I have another laptop on which everything is working fine.

Can someone please help me in setting up internet on my Vaio.Whether wireless works or with cable both options are fine for me.
