Hello,

I have recently run into problems with Windows 7 over the last few days. I've received two blue screen stops and I don't know what to do about them.
If needed, I have a .dmp file that I can upload (over PM preferably, don't know what information it contains, but don't want to publish a public copy of my computer records).
I had two .dmp files, but I guess the second freeze over written the first file.

A little background.
I have an HPE h8-1032 tower desktop. Here is the link to the product specs, if needed.
http://h10025.www1.h...product=5142726

Both times the problem has occurred when attempting to use it after idle periods. Both times I had adobe and firefox running, I had other things to do so I just left my computer to idle until I returned. I do not use a screen saver and have not changed the power options (it is one balanced power, the recommended settings). When I returned, everything seemed to run fine, but as I tried to use Firefox, it began to freeze, showing the loading signal, my modem fan would begin to rev up, and then the blue screen would appear, and the modem fan would rev up even more. I hope this laemann's description is of some help to an expert.

Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. Mike.

If your dmp files are located in the C>windows>Minidump folder you can view them yourself with bluescreenview.

http://www.nirsoft.n...creen_view.html

Post the stop error and the files causing the problem here. Most likely you will have the tcpip problems because the comp goes into hybernate while on line. Turn off hybernate and see if the problem still happens.

You can adjust how long your computer waits before sleeping or hibernating—or prevent it from turning itself off altogether. Here's how to prevent your computer from entering a power-saving state:

Open Power Options by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, and then clicking Power Options.

On the Select a power plan page, click Change plan settings next to the selected plan.

On the Change settings for the plan page, click Change advanced power settings.

On the Advanced settings tab, double-click Sleep, double-click Sleep after, and then click Setting, click the arrow, and then click Never.

Double-click Hibernate after, and then click Setting, click the arrow, and then click Never.

If you also want the display to stay turned on, double-click Display, double-click Turn off display after, and then click Setting, click the arrow, and then click Never.

Click OK, and then click Save changes.

You also may have to go into the BIOS and set the power settings there also.

SRX660,

Thank you for your help and timely response. I followed the instructions as you requested. All of the settings changes you suggested were already in place. I did notice there was a category under "Sleep" called "Allow Hybrid Sleep" and it was turned on. I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

As for the .dmp file. I tried to access the link and for some reason Firefox said connection was unavailable. I went to my XP-based computer and pulled up the site on Firefox with no trouble. I downloaded the zip file and then transferred it to my Win7-based computer (the one with the BSOD problems). When I got the application to run, it did not list any .dmp on my computer and that's when I noticed the .dmp file was not in the location suggested by the crash prompt. When the two BSODs occurred, I restarted in safe mode and the user prompts appeared with brief descriptions of the problem. I did copy and paste those to a .txt file (see below), but unfortunately both .dmp files have somehow been deleted. I did shut down my computer last night after posting my problem, I don't know if restart is what erased it, but I apologize if this hinders the diagnosis of the problem.

Again, thank you for your time and attention to this matter. Mike

Please look at these sites and see if they are what you are looking for.

0xo3b error

http://support.micro...b/2359223/en-US

0x04a error This is the only thing i can find on the 4a error.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969873

Can you disable the hybrid sleep? I am wondering if the hibernate or sleep mode is causing your problem and the best way to find out is to disable them and see if the error persists.

SRX660,

Hi again.
I have set the "Allow hybrid sleep" to "Off" and the other two were already set to "Never".

I also read the two articles on the links that you have provided. I'm not really sure if they apply because I'm not sure if my computer runs the programs or processes that were described. The "4a" link seems appropriate because I do have an AMD processor, but I'm not sure if it runs Hyper-V or V.S. 2008. I guess the only thing I can do is wait to see if it happens again and hope it saves the .dmp file for me to analyze with bluescreenview. I still dont know why that site will open on my WinXP computer but not my Win7 comp, but I have the program on my Win7 computer now.

Is it possible to save this topic thread just in case it does happen again and I might can get more information to you? I will bookmark it and hopefully not have to use it. I do a lot of e-reading on Adobe and that's plenty of opportunities for the idle-to-freeze-to-BSOD scenario to happen if it is going to happen again.

Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. Mike.

SRX660,

I wish all problems exposed themselves this fast. Within 12 mins of my previous post, I got another BSOD and the 4a was the culprit again. This time, Mozilla Firefox was the only thing operating. I didn't have Adobe up nor had I let the computer go idle. So I guess there goes that theory.

Here is the initial crash log.

I ran a bluescreenview on the .dmp file. It traced it to a C:\Windows\System32\ntoskrnl.exe.
It saved a report as an .html file but I don't know how to upload it.
Some details of the report I have typed below.
Bug Check String: IRQL_GT_ZERO_AT_SYSTEM_SERVICE
Caused by Driver: ntoskrnl.exe (full address is C:\Windows\System32\ntoskrnl.exe)
Caused by Address: ntoskrnl.exe+7cc40

File Version: 6.1.7601.17640 (win7sp1_gdr.110622-1506)
Crash Address: ntoskrnl.exe+7cc40

If you need the full report, you may have to give me instructions how to do that for you.

Hope this helps you out and thanks for your time and help. Mike.

Because of the multiple errors with ntoskrnl it looks like you have some older software running on the computer(or maybe daemon tools or like programs).Removing these programs may solve your problem.

Read this site.

Have you tried using the system file checker yet?

SRX660,

I ran a driver update with amddriverdownloader.exe. It installed the "best known compatible driver" for my chipset/system.
I also looked at the HP Support Driver website, but the only software they had were original drivers, so I wasn't sure if I was supposed to install any or which ones I should install.

I ran the System File Checker program you suggested. I ran the verify only scan because I didn't want it to repair anything without clearing it with you, an OS expert. Fortunately, the scan said "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations." It also produced a log of the scan, which I have posted below.

I hope this is a good thing, but it seems kind of strange to me that I've seen 3 BSODs and the scan says my system has no integrity violations. If there is something else I need to do, please let me know. Thank you for your timely responses. Mike.

If this problem just started then i would restore the computer back to before the problem started, say a month ago. Most of these errors are driver problems. Did you download anything just before the blue screens started?

I would have done the repair part of system file checker as it only affects windows drivers, not third party ones.

One thing i would like you to check is the IRQ settings to see if there is a conflict between firefox and some other program on the same IRQ.

View the IRQ settings on your computer from the Windows 7 System Information program.
1 Press Start, then type "System Information" in the Search box and press "Enter." You can also press and hold the "Windows" key on the keyboard and press "R," then type
"msinfo32" and press "Enter."
2 Click the "+" next to "Hardware Resources, then click "IRQs." The list of all IRQs allocated on your system displays.
3 Click the "+" next to Components, then click individual hardware components such as "Sound Device" or "Display" to view the drivers and IRQ channel of the component.

You will probably see firefox on IRQ 16 and a bunch more there. It doesn't mean there's a problem because newer windows system's can share irq's, but it could be a problem when too much data for 2 different programs is going thru the same irq. A easy way to check this is to disable a program in services(one's on the same irq as firefox) and see if the comp blue screen's when firefox is running. I know it's kinda going to extremes, but i'm running out of idea's here. I keep going in circles when looking errors up on the microsoft website.

SRX660,

I have downloaded several video editing software programs from download.cnet.com. They were free and they were compatible with Windows 7, and I did double-check by going to the software's website. I don't remember every program I downloaded, but I did use Revo Uninstaller to erase them and I used the advanced scan that does a deep registry scan to find leftover entries.

I have attached the list of IRQs that you wanted to see.

The IRQ of the Sound Component is 19.
The IRQ of the Display Component is 4294967296.

I could not determine which IRQ was being used by Firefox.

SRX660,

Here's the most recent BSOD. I had NFL GameTracker from cbssports.com in the first tab. And I had about 3 or 4 videos from youtube in subsequent tabs, watching one while the other loaded. Also, when I restarted my computer (and it did this last time as well), I could not use my wireless mouse or wireless keyboard to select "Restart in Safe Mode". It had "Start Windows Normally" highlighted and when the 30 second timer ran out, it selected that by default.

Here's the BSOD prompt.

I must ask you why you have not asked H-P to replace your computer since it is still within the 90 day warranty that they provide. If you cannot do that then i think it is time to do a restore on your system. There is a obvious driver problems that can't be easily found so a restore to before you had the problems is the easiest solution. If i cannot fix a computer in a single day then i cannot afford to fix it at all. It's the only way i can stay in business with my small shop. I either restore or reinstall windows on any computer that takes more than a day worth of work to try fixing.

SRX660,

Sorry for the delayed reply.

It is looking like a complete reinstall may be on the horizon. I checked the exchange policy for HP, it said 21 days from date of delivery receipt. I'll be contacting them later today.

Anyways, I had another BSOD, this time a new code.

Here is the BSOD prompt:

The process HID Mouse Filter Driver belongs to the software Microsoft Windows Operating System or Mouse HID Driver by Microsoft Corporation.

The IRQL_GT_ZERO_AT_SYSTEM_SERVICE bug check has a value of 0x0000004A. This indicates that a thread is returning to user mode from a system call when its IRQL is still above PASSIVE_LEVEL.

Have you been to the malware forums to see if you have malware causing your problems?

Beyond this i would go ahead and try a factory restore, or a wipe and reinstall of windows and then download all the updates. This can be a PITA(where?) but it also can be some fun because you get to try and destroy the computer again. I destroy all my comps then wipe - reinstall and sell the computer quick before i can mess it up again. It's how i learn to do stuff on them.
