If you're using Internet Explorer, click Tools >> View Downloads.
You can run/install your downloads from there, and it should show where the actual files are in the "Location" column.
To see the full location path you may need to maximise the Downloads window.

First thank you so much for tipping me off about how to get the toolbars. Have been complaining to one and all about lack of tool bars in Win 7 and no one told me you have to right click at the top of the screens to get a menu and then configure the toolbars.
So followed your instructions and again the screen was blank - did not even show my one download that does show in the documents download folder and that is my Windows Live Mail program.
I had backed up my hard drive before installing Win 7 on an external hard drive. Yet when I go there to try to get some programs I end up with shortcut icons which means I have to play off the EHD all the time. Not something I wanted to do. Am between a rock and a hard place. Can't download, can't move/copy from EHD to Win 7. Am missing out somewhere or failing to understand something about Win 7.
Again thanks for the tip re toolbars - you don't know what a relief it has been to be able to access those! Was beginning to think I was a complete idiot for using Win 7.
Not sure it is proper here to ask another question - but a huge drawback for me is when I am on the internet all screen text and pictures are so small that I have to lean into the monitor to read anything. Using the zoom means doing so four times before anything is comfortable to see and then it does not hold. That gets bothersome to do all the time.
