Please can someone help me with my problem. When I hit start and then shut down it is really slow and can take up to 3 hours to turn off. I would appreciate it if someone helped me with this.

You seem to have a program hanging-in there, resisting efforts to close it.

Go to start > run > type in msconfig > services tab > tick hide all Microsoft services > untick all the services left on display > reboot > wait 5 min after desktop is open > close down.

Did it close down normally?
If so, one of those programs you earlier unticked was causing the problem.
Now it is a simple process to discover which one. Open msconfig again and tick hide all Microsoft services and add the top five services (tick them) and repeat the boot / close-down procedure.

When you discover the five that contains the service that is causing the problem, you can tick all the others and concentrate on those five only. Repeat the process of elimination again by ticking one service at a time until the culprit is discovered. Uninsall it or if essential to your needs, see if there is a later version you can replace it with or at least remove it and re-install it as sometimes this works.

PS EDIT: When the shut-down problem re-emerges, don't wait 3hrs for windows to shut-down
Force a shut-down by holding in your boot-up button.
