Hello I'm new to this but i was wondering if anyone knows how to get to the restore menu on a laptop to restore it to factory settings. I know you have to press one of the "F#" keys but i tried several and couldn't get to the the BIOS. I've done it on a Dell before but can't get it on my Sony. I have a Sony Vaio...I'm guessing it's different for each brand.

Please provide the complete Sony Vaio model number, then we may be able to help.

Try this.

Reboot.
Press F8 to bring up the Advanced Boot option menu.
Select Repair the computer (or similar wording).
One of the options under there may be System Recovery.

With the full model number, we can check the Sony web site for the users manual and see what it says.

Edit: Also just found this:

Power on the computer and press F10 several times.
Choose Start Recovery Wizard
Follow the onscreen prompts.

On many Sony models, holding alt + F10 at boot will start the factory restore process

On many Sony models, holding alt + F10 at boot will start the factory restore process.

Some use this:

Sony Vaio usually installs their system files right on the computer.

If you click on "Start" then "Vaio Central" a window should open up.

Click on the "Support" tab, then "Recovery".

I do hope you read this article.

You can download a manual for your laptop here.

If you try the sony care program you must have the assist button instead of a wireless button. Otherwise a different method is used to access the recovery program.

And another read on recovery is here.

I hope something here will work.
