OK, now I have the screen almost back--in safe mode only. The accelerator slider was reset automatically by the reboot. However, after booting out of safe, I got BSOD with reference to ATI. I did another boot and it automatically went into the boot menu. Selected safe again, looked around to see if settings were still the same--they were. Restarted again. Same result: BSOD, mention of ATI. I am going to use safe mode to remove the updates we discussed at the START of this episode. I am also going to remove the Acer files I installed trying to upgrade things to the new monitor I was actually using. Once I get these things off I will look for MB default setting in BIOS. I will report back on progress or other developments. Or do you want me to make another attempt at Overdrive before checking BIOS?
I think I have some misunderstanding of the difference between 'adapter' and 'driver.' Is adapter part of the hardware of the machine and driver part of the software?? Or something else? I keep reading about 'adapter driver' Is this two different things or two names for the same thing? I thought when I used the Acer (or any) CD, I was installing software and also the device's driver and adapter. Please set me straight. Regards, Mm
