I cannot seem to change my background, honestly this problem has been going on for awhile now. I have spyboy search&destroy installed on my laptop and it constantly picks up viruses but doesn't seem to permanently remove them. If this were windows xp, I could remove the virues easy by restarting my OS and backing up my files. My photos constantly dissapear from my "my pictures" file and then reappear suddenly

EDIT: I have Windows 7

Is Spybot the only AV software you have installed? If so it's not nearly enough. I would recommend installing Microsoft Security Essentials then doing a scan.

Would be good to also install Malware Bytes Anti Malware (free) and run a scan.

What format is the pic you are trying to use, jpg, png, gif, ?????

Is it just that particular jpg or any jpg that won't work?

See here for some possible causes: Unable to change background picture in Windows 7

Are you using Teatimer with Spybot? If so disable it and see what happens.
