a long time ago I made a mistake in naming a folder. the name should be 'new folder' but instead i put a '[' before it, so now it says '[new folder'. i cant get rid of the [ though. every time i try renaming it i get an error, says 'the action cant be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program'.

as far as i can see no file is open, the folder certainly isnt, and no active program is referencing the contents within. can this be fixed?

thanks
dan

If file contents are unwanted and irrelevant - boot into safe mode delete from there likely what ever service is holding it wont be running

you could also create a new folder with the new folder name of your choice then copy and paste the data from the old folder to the new folder then right click on the old folder then delete it
