Then Navigate to the location below.

I did as you instructed. Update still fails. When I go to "Windows Updates" it only shows the one below. And that is what is failing. Sorry to be such a pain.

I messed up anyway. I dragged the entire folder to System32. Should I just get the file from that folder and put it in the System32 folder and reboot and try again before I try the fix again?

If that fails then open elevated command prompt and type or copy and paste the following into the cmd window hitting enter after each.

net stop bits
net stop cryptsvc
net stop wuauserv
cd c:\windows\system32
ren catroot2 catroot2.old
cd c:\windows
ren softwaredistribution softwaredistribution.old

Now reboot Run the fix it here. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058

Reboot again and check updates.

Every time I run the Windows Installer Fix. It says problems found and fixed. Seems to me if FixIt found problems and fixed them after you reboot and run it the second time it would find no more problems. I'm confused.

Anyway I still get this error when trying to install Windows Important Updates.

Can you install anything or are you still having issues?
Please try and install 7 zip http://www.7-zip.org/ Just as a test.

Also Run the Msi (Microsoft installer) fix it in Agressive Mode. Again and see if it tells you anything about windows installer.

Another thing I would like you to do is get me the exact name, numbers and all of the update that will not install. Also let me know if it is the only update that is not installing.

I can install and uninstall programs that appear to use their own installer and uninstaller. But if a program is written that uses the "Windows Installer" program I get the Error: Windows Installer cannot be reached. And the Microsoft FixIt file that is supposed to repair that runs says it found problems, fixed them, but does not.

Also today I downloaded OTL.exe and ran "Quick Scan Only" I did not make any changes with that, just ran the scan.

Try and run the update while on a clean boot and with your security disabled.

Step 1:
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Note: Please refer the step 7to keep the computer in normal start up after fixing the issue.

Step 2:

Disable antivirus software
