I am running Vista Home Premium, 32 bit with SP2. I have a Toshiba 500Gb external hard drive. I have just reformatted it but now Windows won't recognize the drive. According to the Device Manager it is working properly and the driver is up to date. However, the drive does not appear on the computer page where all other devices are shown. Any ideas about what I can do to get it back on line/

Best wishes

Try this very simple step first.

Click start and then right click computer then manage and then storage and then Disk Management. See if your second hard drive is listed as offline. Right click the disc number and select online.

Thanks Mike; genius! In fact the drive was listed as online, but the volume was marked as unallocated. So I did a quick format for a simple volume and it now works.
