The PC is going to be built for gaming

Well I am not a gamer, the nearest I come to that is Microsoft Flight Professional or was - as I do not use it now, but I do not think you will be very happy gaming, on headphones.

However that is a very minor point

Please do not apologise, it is YOUR topic, I was simply trying to say, that my colleague iammykyl, would be better placed to advise, as he stands above me in system building, when you provided the info.

The only point I would make is, you really do need to satisfy yourself, as to what the arrangements are for this build - but perhaps we may presume there is no real cost involved.

AND do NOT try and build it yourself when you are in any way limited to time, there is no rush, and no prizes for speed.

please help. I dont see where the power button connector plugs into the motherboard... i dont even know what it looks like so I don't know wht i'm looking for (ASRock Z77 Extreme4)

CAUTION THIS IS NOT YOUR MOTHERBOARD it is an example only

Front Panel Connections


inside your case will be wires coming from the front panel of the case, one will very likely be a block connector marked USB
there MAY be two of those
The others will be FP audio and as shown here - not exactly the same but similar - NOW consult the motherboard manual to see where they go, verly likely BUT AGAIN not necessarily on the bottom right of the board for the power HDD and reset

Finally if you are going away tomorrow - Friday - I repeat for your best advice - do not rush this - there are no prizes for speed

the power HDD etc are on page 38 of your manual

the HD Audio and the AC97 see page 13 item 31 and page 37
1. High Definition Audio supports Jack Sensing, but the panel wire on the

chassis must support HDA to function correctly. Please follow the

instruction in our manual and chassis manual to install your system.

2. If you use AC’97 audio panel, please install it to the front panel audio

header as below:

A. Connect Mic_IN (MIC) to MIC2_L.

B. Connect Audio_R (RIN) to OUT2_R and Audio_L (LIN) to OUT2_L.

C. Connect Ground (GND) to Ground (GND).

D. MIC_RET and OUT_RET are for HD audio panel only. You don’t need

to connect them for AC’97 audio panel.

Well Vixie I will continue for about 30 mins and no doubt phillpower2 or iammykyl will be around, but my advice is at the risk of repeating myself, check ALL before you even think of pressing that power switch and do NOT be tempted please to rush tomorrow.

Sorry everyone for the lack of input, been doing some work with a friend.

If I was looking over your build, I would be checking the following items, so I will ask you to check. Please answer every question.

Removed the I/O shield that was installed in your caee and replaced it with the one from the Motherboard box.
Installed the PSU, fan facing down, if your case has a bottom intake grill.
Installed the CPU, and the cooler as per the manual.
Attached the CPU fan plug to the CPU fan header on the Motherboard.
before installing the Mobo, checked stand offs on the Mobo mounting plate match the screw holes on the Motherboard, same patern and number, NO EXTRA ONES.
Installed RAM in slots A1 and B1, Check that the locking levers at each end of the sticks is fully closed.
Installed the Optical drive, then the HDD.
Installed the GPU.

Looks like you are well advanced with the wiring and Macboatmaster has given clear instruction *Thank you* for the fron panel connection, also heed his sound advice, don't ruch and please don't switch on yet.


If you did buy a mini internal system beeper, insure that the + and - symbols on the plug match + and - on the pins. Chassis Speaker Header Please connect the chassis (4-pin SPEAKER 1) speaker to this header.

hey, just a quick explanation up here
my boyfriend who was on skype with my while i was attempting to build told me to stop and definately not to continue without thermal paste for the cpu so I've put the build on pause currently, its going to be locked in my closet (with the case sides up) and untouched for the next week so hopefully it will remain undamaged.

to answer your questions
- I'm not sure what you mean by the I/O on my case...?
- the PSU was installed fan down though I have one or two questions about that (when I start again)
- The cpu is in as followed by the manual, I had put the cooler on before he questioned me about the paste so I will have to take that off
- the standoffs all lined up nicely with the MOBO and it's screwed in
- the RAMs in A1 and B1 - though i'm unsure if it's securely locked - will be something to look at more later
- The HDD and Optical Drive are both screwed in securely (though neither have wires in yet as i wasn't sure what to put in them)
- the graphics card I was leaving to last cause it's so big
- I've been lookin for all the pos and neg things, for the wires I have put in I'm fairly certain it's gone well so far, those that I wasn't sure on I havent plugged in yet
- I have a mother board beeper (though its not plugged in yet)

The heatsink that comes in the box with your processor will have a thermal pad on it so unless you actually preferred a paste such as Arctic Silver 5 for example then no additional paste purchase is necessary

and I covered the same point here on post 29

If it is a CPU boxed deal with cooler it will come with thermal paste pre applied - usually

Some people, especially if they are going to overclock, not something I would recommend, prefer a more specialised application of thermal paste, than is provided as standard
What the thermal paste actually does is to cater for the minute imperfections as such in the surface of the CPU and the cooler., where they mate together.

as phillpower2 and I posted together.

SO unless you did NOT buy the boxed CPU with cooler, you have been given the wrong advice by your boyfriend, as the CPU cooler would have had the thermal paste pre-applied.

I'm having trouble taking out a front panel to insert my diskdrive, could there be a special cip or do i just need to push hard?

IF YOU have ALREADY connected the front panel USB, AUDIO and FP power HDD LED reset etc, you are going about this the WRONG way
YOU take the front panel OFF you remove the blanking plate to insert the optical drive DVD/CD etc and THEN after replacing the panel you make the connections, NOT the other way round.

All that is in the GUIDE I sent you, indeed on the topic created specially for the purpose of posting that guide and where you have now asked the question.

NOTE please - I have made your posts on the other topic invisible, so that you do not receive help in different places and not only YOU who is the most important, but we - phillpower2, iammykyl and indeed myself, have the complete picture
