My apologies , my error you had typed it originally as separate cmds and I failed to realise that you did not have the | on your phone.

Try this please
type at the x prompt
Diskpart
key enter

If the cmd then becomes diskpart
type
list disk
key enter

I do not think it will work as that X prompt indicates a temporary drive established in ram and we are attempting to obtain the info of your Boot Configuration Data, which is in simple terms the old boot.ini on XP

Here is what I got:
X:sources>Diskpart
Version 6.1.7600
Copyright 1999-2008 microsoft corp.
On Computer: MININT - D8RKNFP
DISKPART>list disk
Disk ### Status size free
Disk0. NO media 0B. 0B
Disk1. No media 0B. 0B
Disk2. No media 0B. 0B
Disk3. No media 0B. 0B
DiskPart>

I realize some of that info is basic but I included it anyway in the description.

You may not be surpised to know that from 10 Sept apart from posting - wondered if you had made progress - which of course did not require me to read the topic I have, forgottten the squence of events

However what I can tell you is that your HDD not being seen by Diskpart
OR it is not seeing any file system on it

You should have got
Diskpart>
Diskpart> list disk
Disk ### Status Size Free
Disk 0 Online 4118 MB 0 B
Disk 1 Online 8 GB 4002 MB *
Disk 2 Online 8 GB 0 B * *
Disk 3 Online 8 GB 0 B *
for example

Here is more confirmation
http://www.sevenforu...rt-command.html

If you had obtained some result from there we could have found some evidence of what is the problem , using for instance list volume on diskpart.

You may either wait while I have time to read all the topic again, or you may if you know what to do-take that HDD out connect in an enclosure to another computer and see what if anything is on the drive - remembered part of it now - try putting the drive back as it was on the oirignal SATA port or where ever it was.

OR you may try and run PUPPY and see if that sees the drive

http://www.geekstogo...over-your-data/

I know it says to recover your data, but it is a reasonable test ofthe hardware of the computer and indeed allows access to drives that windows will not load on, and then alllows you to see what is there.

I have to say that at this juncture I think you may have problems.

I will not have the chance to look and get up to speed until Monday I think at the lastest

Hello Macboatmaster,

I removed the HDD and I put it in an enclosure and it open just like a storage drive all my stuff was there, I hope this won't hurt anything I don't think it will but I'm going to backup my stuff from the HDD while it is in the enclosure. I will try to plug it in the original configuration and see what happens like you said.

The system I tried the enclosure on was an XP system with the latest service pack on it. Ok I thought so, I'm going to back up certain files.

Macroboatmaster,

I have backed up my files, what is my next step? I still need to plug the HDD to the old location though but that won't take long.

Connect the HDD back as it was ORIGINALLY
Boot the computer
enter the BIOS setup - NOT the one time boot order
In the BIOS is the HDD recognised - not as the boot priority boot from Hard drive
BUT in the BIOS screen where the HDD is seen with the other hard drives and the optical drive.

If the system is installed configuring IDE mode for the SATA drive and then the mode is changed to SATA the computer will not boot, as the drive will not be seen

Is that the problem.

Unless we can get that HDD seen by the BIOS which is completely irrespective of the state of the Windows O/S, the Boot configuration data - which loads Windows etc, then it is either the motherboard, BIOS or the SATA port to HDD cable, or the SATA power to the HDD

There may be other more unusual causes but those are the main.
