I just had a quick question with regards to the 'Action Centre' icon in Windows 7. I noticed that there is no 'Action Centre' icon in my notifications tray. I want that icon to be shown in my notifications tray, but for some reason when I goto customize it in my 'System Icons' menu, it's off and greyed out. How am I able to turn it back on? Also, should that icon be showing for me in my notifications tray even if I'm running Microsoft Security Essentials? Also, I had some malware on my laptop in the summer and someone helped me out tremendously from here (GeeksToGo) as well.

Thanks you for the time taken in reading my inquiry,

Hi Lets see if there are any missing services or drivers.

Please download FarbarServiceScanner and run it on the computer with the issue.
http://download.blee.../farbar/FSS.exe

Make sure the following options are checked:
Internet Services
Windows Firewall
System Restore
Security Center/Action Center
Windows Update

Press "Scan".
It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

Hmm that looks good lets try something else please.

Lets run a program from within the built in admin account so that it has the full potential to fix your issue.

To Enable the Hidden Built-in Administrator Account

Open an elevated command prompt. In the elevated command prompt, copy and paste the command below and press Enter.

net user administrator /active:yes

Now you log off of your account then log into the admin account.

Once in the Admin account please........

Download the All in one Repair Tool Run the program vista/win 7 users please right click and run as admin. Go to step 4 and create a backup of your registry this tool involves changing registry keys and it is just a good idea to bak it up.Now go to the start repairs tab and run it with the following boxes checked. When running this tool disable your antivirus.

Reset Registry Permissions
Reset File Permissions
Register System Files
Repair WMI
Repair Windows FireWall
Repair Internet Explorer
Repair MDAV/MS Jet
Repair Hosts Files
Remove Policies Set By Infections
Repair Missing Start Menu Icons Removed By Infections
Repair Icons

Unhide Non System Files
Repair Windows Updates
Repair Volume Shadow Copy Service

Make sure and reboot a couple of times after running this tool and then check your issue.

rockmilk,

Thank you for your reply. I'm sorry, but I'm not 100% sure what you mean by "Open an elevated command prompt. In the elevated command prompt, copy and paste the command below and press Enter."

rockmilk,

Sorry for the late reply. My Dad was in the hospital, so I haven't been infront of my laptop for a couple of days. I'll continue on with the steps that you posted for me.

rockmilk,

Thank you for your patience and understanding. It is greatly appreciated. It's been hectic here for the past week or so. I followed the directions that you gave me, but the 'Action Centre' icon is still greyed out when I goto 'Customize Notification Icons'. What should I do next? I also noticed after I ran that scan and checked my 'Windows Update', it wiped out my Windows Update History. Just out of curiosity, is there any way to get that history back?

Thank you,

Hey rock,

I tried sending you a private message, but it wouldn't let me send you one. I'm guessing maybe you've been busy as of late or maybe you're just stumped on my problem..lol I hope everything is ok.

Thank you for your patience! I tried following the steps that you gave me, but when I get to the 'Select Merge' step, I'm getting this message. "Cannot import C:\Users\CT\Desktop\abc.reg: The Specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor.

Am I doing something wrong? Can you please help me out!
