Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit. (Japanese)

I have noticed speaker Icon has disappeared from Task Bar (at the bottom next to clock).
Also unable to put check mark to show as that area is grey and can not put check. Refer screen shot.

I wonder what could be the method to get it back?
