Couple of questions for you;
Do you have a Windows 7 installation disk and Microsoft product key for the disk.
Is there a reason why you want to format the HDD as opposed to upgrading from Vista to Windows 7.

Hello bensonsbird

Unfortunately some malware is so deep rooted that not even a full format will get rid of it, with this in mind I would suggest that you had the system cleaned of malware first either by using the self help guide provided by the GTG malware staff http://www.geekstogo...cleaning-guide/ or if need be by seeking assistance from the experts on those forums.

Once you have the all clear if you still wish to format the HDD you will be safe in the knowledge that your HDD is clean.
