HI there, I had been postng in the malware section, but Gringo who was kind enough to help, believes I am malware/virus free.

I have a 2 year old desktop which until last month was running just fine. Suddenly my Norton 360 would kep freezing, and in the end I did a fresh loading of windows 7 wiping everything. All was okay for a couple of days then Norton would not load then crash etc etc.

Gringo went though combifix etc finding nothing nasty.

All seemed well then bam, I could not boot up. After a few days I reloaded windows 7 again, avast, anti spyware, office 2010. The computer was fine for a couple of hours the failed to boot. Did a defragement and used the check disk tool. It found many "bad sectors"ran it again and seemed okay. I am no longer using Norton 360.

But now it is still running slow. All will be great for 20 seconds, then everything freezes for 5 seconds, the fine again then freezes!!!

heeeeellllppppp!!!

It is doing my head in

Thanks

I believe your issue is a failing hard drive so that is where I want to start.

Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech....ay.cfm?ttid=287
Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.
Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.
If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), and make the CD bootable.

NOTE. If your hard drive is made by Toshiba, try the Hitachi DFT CD Image version of the software

Thanks to Broni for the instructions

Great, thanks for that. took about 40 goes to get it to boot this morning........

Umm, okay, really dumb question, how do I know the brand of the hard drive.
It is a Pryon Eon PC. Looking at the properties fo ther harddrive all I see is ST3500413 ATA Device. . Under the properties of that it says "Maufactuer : (standard disk drives)

Life wasnt meant to be easy......

cheers

ST3500413 ATA Device

This is a Seagate hard drive so you would need the Seagate SeaTools DOS CD ISO version.

Okay, did what you said and made the cd

I booted off the cd and did the scan check

There appeared to be no way to save the scan log.

It came up as 37 errors, which could not be repaired

it appears you maybe right....., a new hard drive might be needed...

Yep I believe you have found your issue. Replacement is needed ASAP. I would suggest doing that before you lose everything.
You should backup all your important data also to make sure.
