Malware that wont go away

I figured it out. When avast downloaded it forced me to download google chrome, at which point when it was done I promptly deleted chrome. This time I clicked on a link before deleting chrome at which point it pulled up the link on chrome. I think I'll stick with chrome and delete mozilla. Anything I need to do to make sure everything is working properly?
