I am not that familiar with it, but open Acronis. Check in Tools/Options/Settings, and see if it isn't creating backups off schedule. or something similar.

I do not have Acronis scheduled for backups.... The only backup listed is in March of 2008.

How about just disabling Acronis from running at startup?

I have removed it from startup programs....Boot up went a little faster...no change in shutdown.

Open Seagate Dashboard and see if you can disable it from Startup, and anything else it does. I have never found it to be of any real value. You can save to your external drive without need for anything it does.

Only things that are remaining in startup menu are---

Java
Realtek HD Audio Manager
Razer Nostromo Systray
NVidia NVRAID
Logitech SetPoint
Adobe Reader and Acrobat Manager

Unless you actually use it for settings (which is rare), I suggest you uninstall Logitech SetPoint. Windows handles wireless mouse etc. functions quite well all by itself.

Only other thing I can suggest looking into is Razer, which I know little about.

No, I do use SetPoint for mouse settings and the Razer is a gamepad. Neither of those has ever been a problem....However, I disabled both before, as you suggested, and it made no difference. I disabled all startup programs and it did not make a difference. Is it possible that a driver, recognized as a valid windows program or otherwise, could be corrupted?

Click here to download Bobbi Flekman's Regsearch.zip to your desktop. Then unzip that, and click on the regsearch.exe to run the tool. In the display panel, copy and paste the following into the upper box:

F-Secure PSC Requisites

Then click Okay. Once the scan completes a textbox will open - copy/paste those contents back here please (the RegSearch.txt log can also be found in the same location as the regsearch.exe file you clicked).

We can use that info to remove those entries. But first:

Right click Computer, left click Manage, click on Device Manager.

When the Device Manager display opens click View - Show hidden devices.

Then in the list below that click the plus symbol (+) next to the following to expand that list:

Non-Plug and Play Drivers

In that list see if you can locate anything that remotely strikes of F-Secure. Copy down what you find, and post that back here please.

I did not see anything that remotely resembled F-Secure....nothing at all starting with "F" even...the only two that are close would be

Security Driver
Security Processor Loader Driver

Open Notepad (Start/Windows "Orb" - Start Search, type notepad and press Enter) and copy and paste the above text (inside the box) into the text file. Now go to File > Save As and call it fixer.reg. Where it says "Files of Type", select All Files and click on Save. Exit Notepad, double-click on the file and ok the prompt asking if you wish to merge the file with your registry.

Then reboot, and check for improvement (though I admit these are likely just harmless remnant Registry entries).
