Under the "Task Scheduler" tab there are also a couple of more Norton links. One of them is "Norton Error Processor" the other one is "Norton Integration". Should I un tick these items as well before I reboot?

As far as Avast I use it on two of my machines and Avira on the other.
I always suggest Avast however I have had a few issues with Avira but only in the past when trying to remove it.

OK. Norton is still jacking with me... I went to the link you provided and started downloasing the latest version of Avast. Norton poped up its ugly head with the bar across the bottem of the page and told me that this file could harm my computer. I was given the choice to Run the program, Save the program or Run and Save the program. Which choice should I use? At this point I want to get some kind of protection on here before I end up with a virus....

The Norton removal tool sometimes works in Safe Mode when it will not work in normal mode

I also think, that you may have Windows Defender enabled and that should be disabled before you run the Norton tool.

However the TOOL requires the registry entries relating to Norton to be available before the TOOL will work, so IMHO changes will have to be reverted on Autoruns

The font size and search engine thing has been corrected... I just went to settings on the search engine, I don't remember about the font size thing. I don't know how you guys do it.... my head is spinning just following directions!

@ Chuck can you remember what version of Norton you had installed at this point I think it best to re install it then un install it via add remove programs then use the removal tool.

OK. If I open in the safe mode will I still be able to get on the net to this site to use the Norton removal tool link you provided or do I need to download something?

I would suggest that you download it first save it to your desktop and then boot into safemode run the tool.

If that fails then go ahead and try re downloading and then removing as suggested.

I ran it both ways (down loaded in safe mode and straight up online) and Norton Online Backup is still showing up when I hit the start button. BTW I noticed that Norton Online Backup is not on the list of programs that the Norton removal tool will remove....not that that means anything, I was just saying. I want to thank you guys for your patience but I have to quit for the night....5:00 AM comes early here in Texas. lol Be back tomorrow! Thanks again!

Also were you able to locate the norton online back up in your program files with the Avast removal tool. ?

@ Albert at this point Norton Av is refusing to leave the system that is the current issue.
