i have done a re install and erase and my system is back to normal but i would still prefer to do a defrag ?

OSX, like Linux uses a different file system than Windows. It's more efficient. So not only does it rarely require defragmentaion, but OSX will do it silently in the background. There are a couple of caveats. If your drive is full (~90%) then there isn't room for defragmentation. Also, only files smaller than 20MB are defragmented. IF your drive is almost full, or you have many files over 20MB then your only options are to reformat your drive and reinstall the data, or get a 3rd party utility like idefrag.
