will a windows 8 disk reset my computer?

My computer is not letting me reset it and i was wondering if the windows 8 disk would completly reset it? I bout this computer at a pawn shop and i cant get into it because i dont know the other peoples password and the pawnshop will not take it back :(

Rather than use the term Reset you could use an unbranded OEM or Retail version of Windows 7 to do a new install.
