Hello and good day to you all. I've had this problem for years now but finally decided enough is enough and I ought to do something about it. I am no computer expert at all so please bear with me.

Long story short, I have a computer that randomly goes extremely slow without any trigger nor warning. It gives the impression of a computer crash when in reality it is just being extremely slow. While this is happening, the loading sound of a computer (I don't know what it's called, but you know when your computer loads there are sounds that come out of the computer?) starts ticking like a slow metronome. It stays this way for about 10-15 minutes before computer goes back to normal as if nothing ever happened.

You would think that shutting down and resetting would be a quicker solution. Unfortunately this is not the case, because even when I do this, the computer is *still* in this slow pseudo-frozen state even prior to loading Windows - so I do not think this is a Software problem.

There is no trigger for it as far as I'm concerned. The computer randomly decides when this happens. Sometimes I manage to go weeks without this happening at all. But when it does happen, it usually occurs every day for about a week. I would say it tends to happen around every 3-4 hours, the average duration of this slow period being 12 minutes although sometimes it has been as short as a minute and, though it's rarely happened, up to an hour.

Sometimes this happens when I'm running other applications, though it has happened when I am not running anything at all. Google Chrome notices things are moving slowly and gives me the frozen browser message, offering to kill any tabs for me. When I play games they don't really tend to crash. I played Final Fantasy 7 for PC once when this happened and the game did "stop" but it didn't actually freeze...if that makes sense.

I've done everything like Malware checks, defrag, disk cleanup etc but none of these help at all, and since I mentioned this slowness still occurs even before the computer boots up properly, I highly doubt this is a software problem. Neither memory nor CPU are ever overloaded when it happens.

OK. Thanks for that.

Lets start with the Anti Virus programs because I see an issue there. You have these installed:

• COMODO Internet Security (Version: 4.1.19277.920)
• McAfee Security Center

The real-time protection of two antivirus programs may conflict with each other and cause the following:

* False Alarms: When the anti virus software tells you that your PC has a virus when it actually doesn't.
* Conflicts: Your system may lock up due to both products attempting to access the same file at the same time.
* Performance: More that one antivirus will cause your PC to become slow and it may even crash or blue screen.
* Less protection: Two antivirus trying to scan the same file may interfere with the process and allow a malicious file onto the computer without notice to you.

We need to remove 1 of these. Tell me what one you want to remove. A special uninstaller is usually required and I can give you that, this assures all files from the chosen Anti Virus program are all removed.

Comodo is something I deactivated a while ago because it made my CPU go crazy and also started blocking things I didn't want it to, so I'll remove that one.

OK. I also see you have Revo uninstaller installed. I would use that to uninstall Comodo. I'll give you the speech I usually provide to use revo since you have it you will not need to download it. Lets see how the computer runs after doing this.


Please download and install Revo Uninstaller Free

• Double click Revo Uninstaller to run it.
• From the list of programs double click on The Program to remove
• When prompted if you want to uninstall click Yes.
• Be sure the Moderate option is selected then click Next.
• The program will run, If prompted again click Yes
• when the built-in uninstaller is finished click on Next.
• Once the program has searched for leftovers click Next.
• Check/tick the bolded items only on the list then click Delete
• when prompted click on Yes and then on next.
• put a check on any folders that are found and select delete
• when prompted select yes then on next
• Once done click Finish.

• Once downloaded to the desktop
• Double click the Listproccess Icon
• Click run
• When the window opens "select" GetList

• Reply to this thread and paste the contents of the list so we can see it.

That's a custom host file most likely created by Spybot search an destroy.

127.0.0.1 is called a local Host or your computer. If you were to try and go to those odd links as displayed in the host file you would be sent back to 127.0.0.1 or your computer in other words the website or link is blocked because it is assumed an unsafe or malicious link.

Hey there - computer just slowed down again right now, so Comodo wasn't the thing causing the problem.

I assume all these programs also need to also be removed using Revo Uninstaller?
Gosh I have left Firefox alone for a long time. I don't use Firefox these days. Chrome is my default browser now. In any case I'll update it.

I think "gyakutenkenjiSS ?????????" was some old fanmade game I downloaded quite a while ago. I'll remove it too anyway since I haven't touched it for probably years.

I think my McAfee subscription ran out a while ago but nonetheless it still seems to run which I'm a little confused about. I'm not the one who installed it on this PC though, so I don't want to go prodding around with it too much. Sometimes it automatically starts scanning when I don't want it to, so I close it down using task manager.

EDIT: I've uninstalled all but Java™ SE Runtime Environment 6 - whenever I tell Revo to uninstall it, instead of uninstalling, instead a custom setup opens and installs it for me instead. It does go ahead with scanning for leftovers but I'm not quite sure if this is the right way to actually go on about uninstalling it so I've left it alone for now.

No you should be alright uninstalling those programs without revo.

I think my McAfee subscription ran out a while ago but nonetheless it still seems to run which I'm a little confused about

Anti Virus programs can be very problematic, and cause the symptoms we are dealing with here. We already see errors in the log. If your subscription ran out you're are not receiving up dates. If you're not receiving up-dates you're at risk of getting infected, I have already mentioned that this is or could be an up date issue of some program. My strong suggestion is to uninstall McAfee, and install a Free Anti Virus program like Microsoft Security Essentials it's an effective program, light on resources, I use it. It's going to be difficult for me to move forward with this issue knowing what I know now about McAfee.

Let me know your decision and I will guide through the uninstall of McAfee and the install of a Free Anti Virus such as I have recommend.
