Hello jolemac1911

Have you tried tapping the Del or F2 key when you power up the computer.

Do you have important data on the HDD that you need to try and secure.

If there is no important data on the HDD see if you can access the recovery partition on the HDD.

Note that all data will be lost during this process and your computer will be brought back to it's original factory state and settings.

1. Power on the computer
2. At the white ACER BIOS screen, hold the Alt key and press the F10 key simultaneously to start Acer eRecovery.
3. Once eRecovery has loaded, click Restore to Factory Default Settings
4. Click OK to continue
5. From here, the eRecovery process will update all the data on the C: drive and restore a fully functional factory image (approximately 10 minutes).
6. Once eRecovery has run, press OK to reboot unit

What exactly is not working?

I'm unable to reboot my laptop

Please explain what you mean by "reboot"

it's not recognising the cd/dvd rom

What is not "recognizing" the DVD drive.

Do you have a disk in the DVD drive but the computer/DVD drive will not read it.

Does the DVD drive open and close as it should when you insert or eject a disk.

If you have a disk in the drive but it cannot be read, what is the exact type of disk.

The laptop has a cd and dvd rom and I was able to see the hard discs drives when I go- start- computer. I only see the c: and D:data drive. And when I put rhe disc on the drive I can hear it running but I cant do anything else. The disc I have is the reboot disc and it use to work.

Have you checked in the BIOS that the DVD drive is listed there and that it is listed as the first device in the boot order and the HDD is the second boot device.

For getting into the Advanced options when you power up tap the F1 key, if it is not the F1 key try the Ctrl+Alt+Esc keys/

I asked;

Please explain what you mean by "reboot"

Do you mean format the HDD and do a fresh installation of the OS (operating system)
