Firstly, I'm going to say that I am in the military and currently using their less than ideal connection that they offer ($50 month, 2down, .15up). Currently living in mainly metal structured barracks, sometimes even picking up the connection and keeping it at maximum is a problem, which means i'm paying for even less than what i listed. So, i decided to do a lot of research about wireless USB adapters, wireless cards, and their types.
Firstly, I am going to list the two devices that are displayed under my network devices: Atheros AR8131 PCI-E, Intel Wifi Link 1000 BGN. I'm pretty sure Atheros is the actual card, but can anyone tell me if this is considered good? Because if there isn't much better upgrades available, that would be good to know before looking around.
secondly, my main question is if there is any advantage to a wireless card than a wireless usb adapter? is one strong than the other in picking up connection or anything? Because if not, it's definitely much easier to just have a usb than taking my laptop apart.
Lastly, with the new release of the 802.11ac, i've been wondering if this is a good investment? I'm not sure exactly how it works and was wondering if you needed a 802.11ac router to even enjoy the advantages of this. I've looked at some adapters and like, the 802.11n is 450mbs and the 802.11ac says 300mbs. Is this accurate for performance? I can guarantee you this router is not ac.
And if none of this is answered, the least i'd appreciate is if someone could recommend me which one of these to buy:
