This HP pavilion has windows 7 home premium and came with Norton trial. I installed another anti virus from Best Buy called Web Root and then un-installed Norton and after that it boots to a black screen with the mouse cursor. I tried the repair console and it said it can't do it because a usb camera or device was used or something like that. So I booted to the last known good configuration and it boots up fine but there is no internet and I can't figure out why and when I reboot, it goes right back to the black screen with cursor. So what would be the first step to get this to boot correctly and the system restore was off and needless to say there aren't any restore points to go back to. I turned it on for the future.

Thanks, banjoman

Well I looked through all those links and read quite a bit but what I need is just a repair which the built in console on the HP will not complete also when I boot with network I cannot con I cannot connect to the internet. If I could use last known good configuration and then save that somehow. I have a win 7 home premium disk, not the same one that is on this PC and tried to boot from that and do a repair but it could not complete that either. It will boot into safe mode and last known good configuration just fine, something is screwed up when It starts up and I'm still reading, guess if I had to I can just reinstall.

Thanks for the reply

You can download the correct ISO to do a repair from the attached link http://answers.micro...ad-57e73f1936d0

Tutorial http://www.sevenforu...ir-install.html

Please note that you must have the Microsoft product key for the OS that is installed on your computer.

It runs the repair but fails and takes me back to the system with the options for recovery? I tried msconfig and turned off everything not needed and still wont boot. I uninstalled the antivirus software, that was the last thing installed before the problem started, still no go. Funny I can boot to last know good config but it wont boot normal. What about SFC, I was reading up on that and thought I might try it, just don't want to screw it up worse? If it comes down to it and I need to install windows again, can I use a generic download, like the one I got from the link and then use the key that is on the desktop? Or do I need to get a disk from HP?

Thanks, Banjomaniac

I saved all files and pics and such to an external drive so I have that. I can't boot to last known configuration anymore, I ran A.V.G. antivirus and it deleted cookies and trackers and after that it only boots to safe mode. I can select safe mode with networking but it actually boots to regular safe mode which it was doing all along cause I haven't been able to get online at all. I'll read some more and see what I can find.

Thanks, banjoman

Couple of questions if I may;

Is the OS on the HDD the original installation from when the computer was new.
Where did you acquire the Windows 7 home premium disk that you have previously attempted to use.
Is the Recovery Partition still on the HDD or has it been deleted, if you are unsure restart the computer and keep tapping the F11 key to see if you get the Microsoft System Restore or run System Recovery options, you have told us that you have backed up your pictures and files but I must make you aware that if you do have this option and you use it the computer will be restored to how it was when new and all personal data will be lost.

It is the original os when pc was new and the recovery partition is there too.I saved all the personal stuff to an external drive so if I do the recovery I can put all the pics and such back. The windows 7 home premium with sp1 I downloaded from the link given in the reply by phillpower2. When it restarts it get to the windows logo then after that just a black screen with cursor, cursor isn't flashing but I can move it. I figure maybe the registry is damaged but not for sure, thought about trying the ultimate boot cd but our I.T. guy at work says it will not help this problem so I will probably do the recovery.

Thanks for the help

I am confused :whistling:

You stated in your reply #3

I have a win 7 home premium disk, not the same one that is on this PC

I asked in my reply #9

Where did you acquire the Windows 7 home premium disk that you have previously attempted to use.

You then say in your reply #10

The windows 7 home premium with sp1 I downloaded from the link given in the reply by phillpower2.

Sorry to say this but people do not always take the time to read all of the information requested and thus provided by the OP, the above statement may suggest to others that the initial "not the same one that is on this PC" disk was suggested by myself which as we know is incorrect <_<

Can you please answer the question that I asked in my reply #9 so as not to muddy the waters so to speak!

As an asides, as you have secured your data + have a Recovery Partition on the HDD I would use the Recovery Partition, start afresh and retain the ISO that you now have for safe keeping.
