Is the OS on the HDD the original installation from when the computer was new.
Where did you acquire the Windows 7 home premium disk that you have previously attempted to use.
Is the Recovery Partition still on the HDD or has it been deleted, if you are unsure restart the computer and keep tapping the F11 key to see if you get the Microsoft System Restore or run System Recovery options, you have told us that you have backed up your pictures and files but I must make you aware that if you do have this option and you use it the computer will be restored to how it was when new and all personal data will be lost.

You stated in your reply #3
I have a win 7 home premium disk, not the same one that is on this PC
I asked in my reply #9
Where did you acquire the Windows 7 home premium disk that you have previously attempted to use.
You then say in your reply #10
The windows 7 home premium with sp1 I downloaded from the link given in the reply by phillpower2.
Sorry to say this but people do not always take the time to read all of the information requested and thus provided by the OP, the above statement may suggest to others that the initial "not the same one that is on this PC" disk was suggested by myself which as we know is incorrect

Can you please answer the question that I asked in my reply #9 so as not to muddy the waters so to speak!
As an asides, as you have secured your data + have a Recovery Partition on the HDD I would use the Recovery Partition, start afresh and retain the ISO that you now have for safe keeping.
