Hi - I posted a question that did not receive an answer a few days ago when all of my MS Office 2007 programs were crashing willy-nilly. Then, Quickbooks started crashing. Now, I had Firefox running and Quickbooks and had walked away from the computer and it crashed and rebooted. My issue is getting worse and I would like to know just what it may be and how to fix. I've run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - nothing found, (see attached log file). Updated my Spyware Blaster. Did a clean up on my computer and now have downloaded and run OTL. See attached log and please let me know what my deal is.

Thanks!!
Janet

You are welcome blondie53185 and thanks for the additional information :thumbsup:

Please Run the PCPitstop.com OverDrive Full Tests

Here's how:

You must use your Internet Explorer for this procedure. (doesn't work so well in Firefox or others). If your machine is running Vista or Windows 7, you must Select IE to “Run as Administrator”. After completing PCPitstop OverDrive you can close your IE browser and re-open it Normally so that you are no longer running as administrator.

Go to: http://www.pcpitstop...pit/default.asp
Click on "Free Computer Check-up" listed below PC Pitstop OverDrive
In the User Login - Click on "Sign up FREE!"
You'll need to submit a valid email address and create your own password, then click - Create Account(button)

Now enter your email address and password to Log in, Select - Scan this system Now!(button)
You will then be asked to download an ActiveX component and allow it to install.
It is safe and does not compromise your privacy.
Follow the on-screen prompts to install the ActiveX and to allow the Full Tests to be run on your machine.

The Full Tests take about 2 1/2 - 3 minutes on most machines.
When complete, a Results - Summary - Recommended Fixes will be displayed.

Please post the URL internet address, from your Results, back here into this Topic Thread so that we can review the configuration and present performance levels of your machine.

Note: During the graphics 2D and graphics 3D testing, your screen will display some rapidly moving objects.
If you are sensitive to visual flashing, it may cause dizziness. Therefore, look away from the screen during that portion of the testing.

After reviewing the results we will be more informed and may be able to provide better recommendations for you to work towards improving your machine's performance.

While PCPitstop does offer a variety of Paid Products, the PCPitstop OverDrive testing is FREE. Please ignore the references to Paid Products. We prefer to provide manual solution instructions that you can apply directly to your machine.

Thanks to rshaffer61 for the PCPitstop information :thumbsup:

Phil - I am stuck because I cannot get IE9 to run the PC Pitstop program. I've opened IE as admin, checked my security level that I am allowing ActiveX, rebooted my computer and still can't get this program to run. I receive the message to accept the program and click the correct button but then just get a window that says the program wasn't installed. Been through all of the troubleshooting on PC Pitstop - can't figure it out. I've tested to see if ActiveX is supported (right through the PC Pitstop site) and receive a message "ActiveX not supported." Any suggestions?

Going to follow the instructions to use in Firefox. PCPitstop has changed: (See all info by opening http://www.pcpitstop...ptune_about.asp in Firefox) Although Internet Explorer holds a majority of the browser market, we try to give our visitors the flexibility of running any choice of browser. Most of the site is accessible from any browser that supports basic style sheets. Users of Mozilla, Firefox, or Opera should be able to read our pages fine, and should also be able to load previous test results or view results that are sent to them through our TechExpress feature.

Until recently, Internet Explorer has been required for any tests performed on the site. Our tests use ActiveX technology, which has only been supported on Internet Explorer. However, Meadco makes a plug-in called Neptune that can be used to run ActiveX controls from non-IE browsers, including Mozilla or Opera. This can let most non-IE browsers run the tests.

Hi blondie53185

Can I ask, do you by chance have more than one Anti Virus program on your computer.
Where are you up to with this at present.

To install activeX http://www.tech-faq....l-active-x.html
You can disable this plug-in once the test has run and we have the url.

As an asides blondie53185, please do not reply to your own OP or last reply as it may lead to information being overlooked, this can particularly happen if the replies are spread over two pages :yes:

If you have something to add while waiting for a reply use the edit tab – bottom right of the dialog input box and this will ensure that nothing is overlooked.

Currently, I have only AVG Free installed and have disabled the Resident Shield. Disabled the Microsoft Windows Firewall.
I attempted to install the add-on to Firefox from Neptune without any luck. Their instructions on how to move the file and where to are too vague for me.
I've followed the link in your previous post and have set all the security settings in IE to the suggested.
I even downloaded and ran FixCleaner and RegCure Pro - no luck!
Went to Cnet and downloaded vbrun60sp6.exe because I thought I might be completely missing the ActiveX program. No luck!!
Something new that is happening now when I go to run the PCPitstop program AND check if ActiveX is running properly - I receive a message at the bottom of my window stating "An add-on for this website failed to run." When I check which add-ons are enabled in IE9, AVS Safe-Search and Microsoft Live Sign-in Helper are the only two that are marked as disabled.
I have rebooted my computer between each action taken and have always chosen to run IE9 as Administrator.
See screenshots of my Internet Zone settings attached.

Thanks for the tip about editting posts rather than creating a new one when I need to convey more information. :)

For testing purposes please uninstall AVG using the correct uninstaller http://www.avg.com/gb-en/utilities and install Avast free http://www.avast.com/index

AVG is very good but it is also very demanding on system resources whereas Avast free is also very good but nowhere near as demanding.

Ok - AVG removed but the links you provided did nothing. I had to uninstall it through the control panel. Tried to use the links you sent after that and it still did nothing. See the attached report that appeared on my desktop after one of the uninstalls (not sure which). Finally got Avast installed and attempted to run through all the updates to programs that it suggested including Java which I have verified that I have the correct version for my computer but Avast doesn't recognize that. Didn't attempt to update the DivX because I didn't think it mattered at this point.

Anyway, PCPitstop still gives me a message that an add-on did not install properly in IE9 running as an administrator. Testing ActiveX shows ActiveX not supported. What is my next task? :blink:

UPDATE: Just opened Quickbooks and received an error that "An error has occurred in the script on this page" "Unable to get product version. Object is null" and this url: https://qbinproduct....ersion=04262013

Time for a change of approach to this;

My next suggestion is to tidy up the data on your HDD so please follow the directions provided below starting with Autoruns http://technet.micro...ernals/bb963902

1: Extract the Autoruns Zip file contents to a folder.
2: Double-click the "Autoruns.exe".
3: Click on the "Everything" tab
4: Go to File then to Export As or Save in some versions.
5: Save AutoRuns.txt file to known location like your Desktop.
6: Attach to your next reply.

2nd: Download and run TFC from http://www.geekstogo...ds&showfile=187 your computer should automatically re-boot on completion but if not do it manually.

3rd: Defrag your HDD http://www.auslogics...re/disk-defrag/ a tidy drive is a faster drive, please note that I am not suggesting that you use any other product or service at the link.

To speed up your boot times find any unnecessary programs linked to start up "how to" below;

START -> RUN
type MSCONFIG in the RUN box
then click OK

Click on the start-up TAB

Look at each line that has a check in the box, these are start-up items, with the exception of Windows programs and your AV software uncheck the ones you do not want to run at start-up.

Attached is the Autoruns file. Will Edit this post when other steps are completed.

Mission accomplished! My computer still starts up slower than I would like but there are programs in the Startup that I don't know what they are or associated with so I left them in there.

What is my next task?

Can you take a screenshot of what is left in the start up list;

To capture and post a screenshot;

Click on the ALT key + PRT SCR key..its on the top row..right hand side..now click on start...all programs...accessories...paint....left click in the white area ...press CTRL + V...click on file...click on save...save it to your desktop...name it something related to the screen your capturing... BE SURE TO SAVE IT AS A .JPG ...otherwise it may be to big to upload... then after typing in any response you have... click on browse...desktop...find the screenshot..select it and click on the upload button...then on the lower left...after it says upload successful...click on add reply like you normally would.

Screenshot instructions are provided to assist those that may read this topic but are not yet aware of the “how to”.

We will come back to your Autoruns log in due course but I will be going offline shortly as it is getting late here.

Attached are 3 screen shots with my startup programs.

FYI: Due to a client using a website program that only runs on IE7, I had to uninstall IE9 and IE8 and reinstall IE7. And, no, PCPitstop will not run - I thought it was running but it was hung at Entering pcpitstop/beta/pit.

Please create a system restore point http://windows.micro...asked-questions

Once you have done this with the exception of Windows services and Avast uncheck everything that is configured to run on start up and then restart the computer.

Let us know if this improves your start up times.
