Got up this morning, went to check email and whatnot, and first thing I noticed was my email program acted like it wouldn't open, but it did after a minute or two. Same thing opening just a browser....just really slow.
I tried system restore, as everything was fine when I went to bed last night. It took forever for that program to open, and it finally did, and I chose a restore point of a couple days ago, and again....it seemed to just crawl. In the restore process, it went to a blue screen, and I would periodically see the little spinning blue circle on the screen, like it was busy doing something. I got tired of waiting, figured maybe it was all over, and I had bigger problems, so I did a hard shutdown.
Started it back up, and apparently it restored to the point I chose, can't figure out why it went to the blue screen. Well, it didn't change anything....it's still slow as molasses, just opening a browser, or any program for that matter. Once I get on the internet, it seems fine, but I'll occasionally get the "Firefox not responding".......same with Chrome. I started it in safe mode, and it seemed like it moved a little faster, so I tried system restore again, just for the heck of it. I figured maybe the first one didn't take correctly, since I got that blue screen and did the hard shutdown. It openen system restore faster, and went through the process, and again, I got that blue screen when it restarted, but after a minute or so, it went to my desktop. Nothing changed though.....still slow.
The best way to describe it is.....it's like all of a sudden my computer turned into an old, really slow computer with a bunch of crap installed on it, that simply takes forever to do anything...like there isn't enough RAM to do more than two things at once.
A little while ago though.....I started it again in safe mode with networking, and it acted perfectly normal. Live Mail opened in seconds, no "not responding" message with either browser, programs open right away......doesn't appear to exhibit any of the same behavior that it does in normal mode. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that pretty much rule out a hardware issue, and make it more likely a software/malware/virus issue? It's really strange to me, especially just out of the blue like this.
I built this computer a little over a year ago, and it's been problem free, and now this.
For whatever it's worth....here is some info on my computer:
Intel i5-2500 @ 3.30 GHz
8GB RAM
ASUS P8Z68-V LE motherboard
Intel 520 Series Solid-State Drive 120 GB
Any advice, input, or any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
