Windows 7 keeps reverting to startup repair after windows update

After completing a scheduled windows update, my HP Probook 4530s keeps on going into the startup repair in the recovery console. I've tried to log into safe mode, but windows keeps on going back to the startup repair. Startup repair does a search for problems and then asks to reboot. only to go back to the same operation. Could someone please help?
