OK Windows has Media Player already. I personally have not used it in years once I found VLC. No worries about codecs or any of that nonsense. Just a thought but you could install one update at a time and that way you would know exactly what is causing the issue. I agree though if it is working now enjoy it for awhile.
installed vlc and klite codec packs for now. 24 hours and no BSOD now that is an achievement. I am not worrying about the updates for now just making sure that it isn't one of the programs. Next step is updating GPU drivers. creating restore points at each step
