So my problem is this. some time ago i updated drivers. after updateing to amd driver 13.6 beta there was a problem. the brightness of the display was low and i looked it up it was a common problem, so i decided to install a older driver. now when i start catalyst control manager it says. "no amd graphics driver is installed, or the amd driver is not functioning properly." was wondering if the same problem would be when i reinstalled the newst beta and then everything was fine except the brighness. so until they fix the brighness thing i need a proper driver, but i have no clue which one. i have tried many but all but the newest beta driver have that problem.

i have hp switchable graphics. when catalyst says that, does it mean my computer is always on the intel one, or is it just a problem for catalyst?

specs:

hp dv6
win7 64 bit
amd 6770m hd graphics card.

it said

"ati catalyst mobility cannot be downloaded due to incompatible hardware/software on your computer.

the version of your graphics adapter is not supporter.

contact your notebook manufacturer fo graphics card update"

i have hp notebook with switchable graphics. that's probably the reason. if i remember correctly i have tried to download a driver from them, but it has the same problem.

Thanks  the -6072eo makes a lot of difference with research <_<

Please Run the PCPitstop.com OverDrive Full Tests

Here's how:

You must use your Internet Explorer for this procedure. (doesn't work so well in Firefox or others). If your machine is running Vista or Windows 7, you must Select IE to “Run as Administrator”. After completing PCPitstop OverDrive you can close your IE browser and re-open it Normally so that you are no longer running as administrator.

Go to: http://www.pcpitstop...pit/default.asp
Click on "Free Computer Check-up" listed below PC Pitstop OverDrive
In the User Login - Click on "Sign up FREE!"
You'll need to submit a valid email address and create your own password, then click - Create Account(button)

Now enter your email address and password to Log in, Select - Scan this system Now!(button)
You will then be asked to download an ActiveX component and allow it to install.
It is safe and does not compromise your privacy.
Follow the on-screen prompts to install the ActiveX and to allow the Full Tests to be run on your machine.

The Full Tests take about 2 1/2 - 3 minutes on most machines.
When complete, a Results - Summary - Recommended Fixes will be displayed.

Please post the URL internet address, from your Results, back here into this Topic Thread so that we can review the configuration and present performance levels of your machine.

Note: During the graphics 2D and graphics 3D testing, your screen will display some rapidly moving objects.
If you are sensitive to visual flashing, it may cause dizziness. Therefore, look away from the screen during that portion of the testing.

After reviewing the results we will be more informed and may be able to provide better recommendations for you to work towards improving your machine's performance.

While PCPitstop does offer a variety of Paid Products, the PCPitstop OverDrive testing is FREE. Please ignore the references to Paid Products. We prefer to provide manual solution instructions that you can apply directly to your machine.

Thanks to rshaffer61 for the PCPitstop information

NB: An example of the url that we require and the information that it leads to http://www.pcpitstop.com/betapit/sec.asp?conid=25271813

Both graphics solutions are using the same video drivers, a possible explanation as to why below.

There is a chance that the software will not install as there is not enough free space on the HDD, see my canned text below;

Please note that you must always have a minimum of between 15 and 20% of a HDDs overall storage capacity available as free space or you risk the data on the drive becoming corrupt or in a worst case scenario mechanical failure of the HDD itself.
The above can render a computer inoperable if the HDD concerned has the OS on it due to the MBR (Master Boot Record) becoming damaged/corrupt, please see information @ http://pcsupport.abo...sterbootrec.htm

The quickest way to free up space on the HDD is to uninstall any software that you no longer use, old games for example, if the software has it`s own uninstaller you must use that otherwise uninstall it in the Control Panel

I noted another couple of things but will come to those in due course as you have enough to do for now.

ok, i have abaout 25% free hdd now. kinda weird to have to have 200gb free space.

It is more of an issue with smaller capacity HDDs and SSDs and the partitions on the, a 60GB partition with the OS would only require 12GB free space for example.

Have you tried uninstalling all video drivers and restarting the computer to see if it allows you to select your own video device to install.

Download and save the new drivers to your desktop, create a Restore Point, go into the control panel, highlight the device that you wish to uninstall the drivers for** right click on the device, select uninstall driver, restart the computer and then install the drivers for the device that you saved earlier.

** The same steps can also be taken to uninstall a device.

See how it goes and if you are happy as things are.

Re updating drivers, there is a misconception among many people that you must always have the latest drivers, this is incorrect as many driver updates are released to address a known issue, if you do not have that particular issue you do not need the driver update and installing it can actually cause the user problems, some information on this @ http://lifehacker.co...date-my-drivers

Keep us posted on how you get on and good luck
