Hi everyone,

Since i bought my computer i've been experiencing some troubles with some apps. Mostly video games such as Half Life 2 and Source engine based games. The problem is that the game freezes and loops the last sound for, say 2-5 seconds. This is very annoying in more competitive games like DotA2. Actually, the problem isn't exclusive to Source engine games. I experienced it with MusicBee too, a music player application. With this, sometimes at the start of the track, around 20s, the music loops the last second the same way as with Source games. I think the problem occured with other applications but it has become so usual that i can't remember them. I never noticed any sound problems when using my computer with Linux-based OS but I can't be sure of its absence.

I tried updating and using every version of the drivers i could find, and the problem isn't about the device receiving the sound, i had this problem both with my headphones and my speakers.

The computer: http://www.digitalve...tml#full-review

It had a good performance/price ratio when i bought it, but this problem just ruins my gaming experience.

Thanks for helping!

Razzha.

Hi Razzha,

Sorry for such a delayed response, hopefully we can still help you. I can recommend just a couple of standard actions in regards to sound issues, hopefully this may fix it up:
  • Do you have any third party codec pack installed on the computer?

Step 1
If you have any third party codec pack installed on the computer you may try to temporarily disable the codec pack or try to uninstall it and check if it works fine. Later reinstall or enable the codec pack after checking.

Step 2
You may also run the Audio troubleshooter built in Windows 7 and check if it identifies any issues and able to fix it. Access the link below and follow the steps to troubleshoot audio problems.

http://windows.micro...-troubleshooter

Step 3
You may also access the link below and follow the steps in the article and check if it helps you fix the sound issue.

http://windows.micro...-when-I-play-it

Also you may open event viewer and check if there are any other significant error messages/codes related to the issue when the system freezes and post back the details.

Refer the link below for more details:

What information appears in event logs (Event Viewer)?

(sourced from http://answers.micro...a6-b3b1f0e59c0d)

It sounds like it might have been an actual hardware problem, but since the sound works OK on Linux, that seems unlikely. Hopefully I could help you out and please post back results, good or bad, we'd love to know!

So that everyone can find out: there's a parameter called 'usb selective suspend' in the power management advanced settings, which may be the root of this problem, sometime stopping my external hdd. This caused it to restart and to take some time loading data when software were using it.

I'm sorry, I'm having trouble understanding your last post. Has disabling 'USB selective suspend' fixed the issue?

Yes, sorry for the short answer. I reinstalled my OS and figured it wasn't a problem of corrupted installation or something like that. And realized i had the problem only with softwares using my external hdd, which was being shutdown because of this parameter. I deactivated this parameter and everything is better. I've been having this problem for a year... And it explained why Linux was working fine, since power management isn't very advanced in Debian and such OS by default.
