hi all, sorry..its me again

ive just got back from holiday to find someone has knackered my lappy..( my money is on my grandson )
it had blue screened, but i managed to do a restore on it..from then it wouldnt run any programs so restored it again to a different point with the same result...got a bit fed up at that point so did a full restore to factory on it and now it wont install updates again...ive had a look round but cant seem to find anything of use so im throwing myself on your mercy in the hopes that someone will take pity on me..
it has loaded about 35 updates, but it took about 4 hours and there was a failure or two..
im running vista home basic, 32 bit i think and its on an acer laptop

any help is, as always, much appreciated

regards
nige

Hello.
Let's see what can we do to fix this issue :)

Please go to C:\Windows and find folder named "Software Distribution". Inside should be file named "Reportingevents.txt". Please, attach it to your next post. If it's too big, then zip it and attach.

I'm glad that I can help you :)

Due to your report, updates are downloaded and ready for install, but system is rescheduling installation.

Please proceed as follows:

Go HERE and download Fix WU Utility by Ramesh Kumar.
Unzip it to your desktop and run it right-clicking and choosing 'Run as administrator".

In the main window choose Fix Windows Update.
Wait until the process will finish and reboot.
Check how are the updates.

Yes, please provide new Reportingevents.log., as mentioned before.

Earlier you said that SP2 is on board?
Please be more specific about chrome crashing, because we were not doing anything that can make it unstable. Any new installations in it? Some plugins or extensions?
