IE 8 blocks nearl all websites due to certificate errors

Recently IE 8 has started blocking almost all of the websites I use. The information bar pops up and says that there is a problem with the sites certificate. This even happens on my webmail from my service provider and on the microsoft website. I've gond back and set all of the settings I can to default but it has not solved a very annoying problem. What am I missing as the source of this constant stream of information bar harassment?
