Online streaming media glitches

Problems: Windows media player and iTunes media player sound like a scratched LP, many skips. Downloading files (i.e. Windows update fix it tool, NAV fix it tool, etc...) are corrupted where Windows 7 will not allow me to install them. Google website banner doesn't display properly.

On August 24th my TWC cable modem had to be replaced. While waiting for TWC tech to show up I used my Verizon Droid 3G phone USB tethering function so I could VPN for work. Tethering allowed me to work, but was up and down many times. My online experience has never been the same since.

I own/operate several computers in my Wi-Fi LAN that do not experience the same problem. I use MS Virtual Machine on my main PC it also does not experience the same problem.

My main PC is Windows 7 OS, 2.4gHz Quad core CPU, 6GB RAM.

My thoughts are driver conflict but I do not know where to look.

Any suggestions are much appreciated.
