Hi waynf,
What version of Firefox do you have installed? To find out, click on Help in the menu bar and navigate to About Firefox. The version will be displayed. The current updated version of Firefox is 23.0.1
Good possibility that an Add-on might be causing this. See if running Firefox in Safe Mode helps to eliminate the problem. Once in Firefox Safe mode try to access Gmail:
Please note:
This is not the same as Windows Safe Mode.
DO NOT choose the Reset Firefox button if that option is available, this will restore Firefox to its factory default state.
To open Firefox in Safe Mode:
You can read more about Firefox Safe mode here
If Firefox works efficiently in Safe Mode, re-enable each Add-on one at a time till you find the one that might be causing issues. You can either disable the Add-on when not in use or uninstall it completely if you no longer have a need for it.
Keep me informed to your progress.
