If someone has your IP address and know what they are doing, then yes they could literally follow your every move with the right programs.
There are a few things you can do to help yourself. I will now list a number of things to do or download and this list will be in order of importance. All of the software listed below is Freeware. Steps 1 and 2 are must have, no questions asked, every computer connected to the Internet should at MINNIMUM have these.
1. Run an Anti Virus program. What I reccommend is, AVG Free Edition Antivirus .
Whatever AV software you run, make sure you have the latest edition and always, always keep it up to date.
2. Use a Firewall. What I reccommend is, Zone Alarm Free Firewall. There are other Firewalls, but Zone Alarm is easiest for new users.
3. Use the Windows update site located Here to keep your system up to date.
4.Always keep your system clean and uncluttered. This can be done manually, but here is a program that literally FLUSHES your Cookies, Temporary Internet Files and the History cache. I reccommend using it at least once a week, I however use it after every session at my system. Download Clean Up here. This program is also available for download on the page that step 5 takes you to. If you download it now, just skip over it in the next step.
5.NO MATTER WHAT ELSE YOU DO Please Click here!, and follow the recommendations in the guide.
When all is said and done, if you do these 5 things you will be as secure as possible to any outside snooping or threats. If you need help configuring or installing any of the software listed please contact me as I am always obliged to help.
