Hey all,

I've been working at this problem for quite some time and thought it was time to ask for some help from the professionals.

Here is my situation:

I have two AMD video cards installed on this one PC. I can only get one to run at a time depending on which I select as the primary graphics card in the BIOS settings.

The two graphics cards are:

-AMD Radeon HD 7700
-ATI FireGL V3600

Device manager currently shows the following:

-AMD Radeon HD 7700 - "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
-ATI FireGL V3600 - "This device cannot work properly until you restart your computer. (Code 14)"

I have attempted to download the latest drivers and install them from AMDs website but it never seems to work quite right. Any help would be much appreciated.

Here is a Speccy snapshot of my system hardware:

Thanks in advance,

Unless you are using a crossfire bridge the two cards will not work.

For a crossfire setup to work you need 2 of the same cards (same model) or on rare occasions 2 compatible cards.

Right now your system sees 2 cards but cannot decide which is the main one, when using a crossfire bridrge the two cards (of the same model) work as one and are considered by the system as one card due to the crossfire.

If your motherboard as 2 PCI-E it is able to make two cards work together (either crossfire or SLI (for nvidia cards) and on some boards the two ioptions are available)

FIRST Make sure your motjerboard is ready for crossfire
second make sure your cards are crossfire ready
third make sure your 2 video can be used together in crossfire.

Hope that helps

Hi Alzeimer,

Thank you for your kind reply.

Don't misunderstand me I do appreciate the reply but please, I did do my research prior to making this purchase and it should be possible to run 2 AMD video cards simultaneously in a non-crossfire environment. Crossfire is for combining the processing power of two cards to boost performance. I built this for added monitors and thus I do not want or need crossfire.

I don't want this to sound like an insult but I will continue to wait for replies from others in the forums who are possibly more experienced in video cards and hardware.

Thank you,

Gday Horus79,
been a while since I looked at multiple GPU/displays, this is my take so far.
Windows 7 supports multiple separate video cards to separate displays.

Most user do not have problems where software controls the video cards, Adobe, Folding@Home, Bitcoin Mining, here they can use more than 2 cards, mining on 2+ playing games on another.
2 cards, any generation, same driver, OK.
Conflicts start with 2 rds, different drivers, seems to be the luck of the draw whether it works or not.
For management, some using CCC or MSI Afterburner, seen some using this software, > http://www.displayfusion.com/
Have you made any progress with a solution, Please share if you have.
If not, I have some suggestion, untried, unproven.
Are you doing photo/video on one card and gaming/general on the other?

Iammykyl,

I have not made any progress I believe it may be the two separate drivers issue. They definitely are different and it seems like windows wants to use whichever driver was installed most recently for both cards.

Hit me up with those suggestions! Looking forward to it!

EDIT: I am wanting to set up 6 monitors for business purposes I do call center type work from home and the more screens I have the better

Gday.
Still doing research.
Some indication that most problems are caused by the management utility, rather than the drivers, so we might try using Window 7 Display Manager first.
This software may be a solution, > http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/

Please download Revo Uninstaller Free, > http://www.revounins...e_download.html; at start up, Go > Options, > General, > Tick Advanced Mode, untick, check for updates at start up. Please post a screen shot of the installed programs. If you have a long list, scroll up and take a second shot.
If we do use this, Highlight the program to uninstall, on the top menu, click uninstall, click yes, in the next window use the third radio button, "moderate" only remove items that are bolded.

As I come across alternative options I will list them.

Thanks iammykyl!

Here is the screenshot from Revo. I had already removed the CCC and other management software from AMD as I really dislike having it running in general so I don't think there is much to remove here. If you're thinking the standard uninstallation did not work properly let me know and we can reinstall and remove with Revo.

Thanks for the assistance!

IT'S WORKING!!!!!!!!!

Not actually sure what did it. I reinstalled the drivers manually using device manager. I installed the drivers for the HD 7700 first then disabled the graphics adapter and installed the drivers for the second, then a restart and it magically is working perfectly!

Thanks for your help and suggestions it really did help point me in the right direction iammykyl!

Gday.
That is great news.
Was exactly the steps I was going to suggest next.
Remove all software/drivers, install of drivers only, separately, so we were on the same page.
Should you decide to give Ultrmon a try, please let us know the results.
