I want to dual boot with Red Hat 9.0 and Fedora core 3- 2 different drives that have been formatted, etc. Fedora is on hda and RH is on hdb. Problem...when I try to edit grub file, reboot and click RH 9- file is not found :tazz: . I have tried different configurations the last one is this:
default=2
timeout=30
splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
hiddenmenu
title Fedora Core (2.6.11-1.27_FC3)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.11-1.27_FC3 ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol)) rhgb quiet
initrd /initrd-2.6.11-1.27_FC3.img
title Fedora Core (2.6.9-1.667)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.9-1.667 ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quiet
initrd /initrd-2.6.9-1.667.img
title Red Hat 9.0
kernel (hd0,0)/boot/1.0
root=/dev/hdb1
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
chainloader +1

The first two lines under RedHat 9 are ones that were recommended to me. I have tried using hd1,1/boot/1,1 and rootnoverify hd1,1- no luck...default=0...no luckand several other options. If anyone can assist with this mess that I madfe I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.

Get knoppix, the live CD linux, and go into the hdb. Make sure the files listed there actually exist in the EXACT name in the GRUB file. If you have updated Red Hat, the kernel probobly has changed and there is no /vmlinuz-2.6.9-1.667. also,
"root (hd0,0)"
- it should be root (hd1,0), the hd1 being the hard drive and the 0 being the partition.
I also am wondering why you have 2 of the same os' on the same computer. plus Fedora Core 4 is out, check it out.

Hi thanks for the reply---I actually have FC3 on one drive and RH 9 on the second hard drive...I wanted to use RH 9 as the 'test' os for various things---and wanted to use FC3 as the main os undaunted until I am better adapt at the overall Linux os....then I will upgrade to FC4.
However I was able to find the grub.conf on RH9-(via linux rescue) it read :
root (hd1,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.20-8 ro root=LABEL=/
initrd /initrd-2.4.20-8.img

At the beggining of the file however there was this line:
kernel /vmlinuz-version ro root=dev/hdb2

So my new grub was configured:
root (hdb1,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.20-8 ro root=LABEL=/
initrd /initrd-2.4.20-8.img

again, I received the kernel panic error ---off to try another config.
