Hi all,

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop, when i try booting it up I am getting a message

error code 0xc0000185

and the options

press enter to try again
press f8 for startup
press esc for uefi firmware settings.

when i press enter the message changes to

windows\system32\winload.efi is corrupt or missing

I created a recovery dvd, when i try running this it appears to load up but the screen goes black and after about 5 minutes a blue screen flashes up with some message about system not responding and then just shuts down.

Does anyone have any solutions or help they can pass on to me.

Thanks in advance

Hi Ztruker,

No joy with this, it just still sits on a black screen after trying to boot from usb device. Then after a while reboots as it encountered a problem. The other problem i have is the software was pre-installed on the laptop and it does not appear to have any product key sticker on the laptop.

Is this common now with new laptops as I've viewed a few posts and no product key on windows 8 laptops seem the norm. What are you suppose to do if your o/s goes wrong??

Any other suggestions

Thanks

Hello scottb

RE the product key, just a quick suggestion for you while Ztruker is offline, try removing the notebooks battery to see if the Microsoft product key sticker is in there.

The key is embedded in the BIOS/UEFI setup. No sticker on the computer any more. It will be read by the installer automatically. You will not have to enter anything.

You were able to create the UEFI bootable flash drive using Rufus?

Hi Ztruker,

I thought I had, but it would appear the pen is blank, I tried to create it using the recovery disc I created from a friends laptop. Sorry for sounding so thick but where do i find a windows 8 iso file? I am currently using my old laptop running windows 7.

Thanks for the help
