Hi there. Sorry if in wrong forum but have issue with alienware laptop. Yesterday a driver update program I ran indicated that my gaming driver was in need of update. It downloaded the driver and restarted the compter. Upon reboot the alienware logo popped up as usual but froze. I did a reboot in safe mode and after loading the drivers it got stuck on avrst (I have to confirm that is the right spelling) and would not load. This lap top does not have a cd drive a nd am trying to restore or respawn the computer but it does not give me the option in the safemode menu. Am desperate to get this fixed and again apologies if in wrong forum. Any advise would be appreciated

The driver that safe mode gets stuck on is aswRvrt.sys.

Hi Revan :welcome:

What happens if you press F8 to access the Advanced boot Options and you select Last Known Good Configuration?
Does it fail to boot?

Hi,

Are you running Windows Vista or Windows 7?

You need to press F8 when the system is starting to access the Advanced Boot Options menu...

Windows 7 boot options should be like this:

You need to press F8 several times immediately after starting the computer, then try the option Last Known Good Configuration or Enable low-resolution video (640x480)

I tried again and gave me Launch Start up Repair. Selected that and got... Windows failed to start. A recemt hardware or software chane might be the cause. If windows files have been damaged or configured incorrr Startup Repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. If power wa s interupted durring startup choose windows normally.

Aside from Launch start up repair...start normlly is .y only other choice. Repair makes screen go blank for 2 seconds then gives me same meesage again.

Can you cancel the Startup Repair process and access the System Recovery Options screen?

If you can try to restore the system to a date before the driver update.

Makes the sound as usual when the desktop loads but it wont switch to desktop. Its just stuck on loading screen
