If I recall my roommate saved everything necessary on an external HD.

what brand is the computer? Different PC manufacturers have some built in tools to easily restore their win7 PCs.

Good evening sir! :welcome: Do you want to completely clean the OS? Or just go to an earlier date?

What you want depends on the instructions given. Thanks

Printing these instructions for reference is recommended. Important:You might need your Windows 7 disk.

Restarting Windows 7 to Factory Settings:

  • Click Start,then Control Panel
  • Click System and Security, then Backup and Restore
  • Find Recover System Settings
  • At the bottom click Advanced Recovery Methods, then choose Return your computer to factory condition
  • It will ask to backup your files, since you already did you can click Skip
  • then click Restart

Your computer will start to reboot and begin the recovery progress.

  • Select your keyboard layout, the default is US, then click Next
  • Under Select Restore Type click Restore Operating System to Factory Defaults
  • You will get a notice it will erase all data. Click Next, then on the next window click Next again.
  • You will get a notice that it will erase all data on the existing Partition click Ok
  • It will start cleaning your disk so might take a while. After some time it will start back up again. Your computer will be like fresh out of the box!
